New Technology: Honda says brain waves control robot?

Honda Research Institute Japan Co. President Tomohiko Kawanabe flashes a V-sign as he explains Honda's new robotic technology researched with ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories in Tokyo Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Patterns of the changes in the brain taken by an MRI machine, shown on the screen at left, which are used in hospitals to take images of the brain, were relayed to a robotic hand, at front. A person in the MRI machine made a fist, spread his fingers and then made a V-sign. Several seconds later, the robotic hand did the same movements. Honda hopes to some day link a person's thoughts with machines in everyday life.

This Future Asimo's hand is showing a "V-sign" and it was controlled by Human brain signals.

A person in the MRI machine made a fist, spread his fingers and then made a V-sign. Several seconds later, a robotic hand mimicked the movements.

The machine for reading the brain patterns also would have to become smaller and lighter — like a cap that people can wear as they move about, said ATR researcher Yukiyasu Kamitani.

Comments:
I saw that TV news last week, it was really interested me. With this new technology Human can drive a car without using a steering wheels, gear shift knob and breaking padel physically I guess. Besides that it can be used on daily work too, like Typing on computer, households products ....etc....linking a person's thoughts to machines.

Maybe another 10 years from now, our dreams will comes trues.

Biotech for closer ties (MALAYSIA & JAPAN)

TOKYO: Bio-technology will be the basis of a new era of cooperation between Malaysia and Japan, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abullah Ahmad Badawi.

He said his Japanese counterpart Junichiro Koizumi has agreed the two countries must work together on this sector, especially on bio-fuel, in the face of rising world oil prices.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Koizumi at the latter’s office here yesterday, Abdullah said the two agreed there was an urgent need for an alternative fuel, and that bio-diesel was the most effective option.

Malaysia was already talking with two Japanese companies on this matter, Abdullah told Koizumi.

“I also told him that the collaboration on bio-technology must not be confined to only bio-fuel but be expanded to cover a whole spectrum – from food production to pharmaceuticals and cosmetics,” the Malaysian leader said, adding that Koizumi agreed with him.

Abdullah said there had been three eras of collaboration between Malaysia and Japan in the past 40 years.

“I see bio-technology as the next opportunity for our two countries to work together,” he said.

However, Abdullah assured Koizumi that the special preference given to bio-technology would not be at the expense of existing sectors such as manufacturing and ICT.

Koizumi in turn informed Abdullah that the Japan-Malaysia Economic Partnership Agreement, commonly referred to as a free trade agreement, had been passed by the Japanese Parliament and would take effect once it had been ratified.

“I reminded him that the agreement required Japan to set up a skills training centre for automotive industry workers as well as programmes to help improve the Malaysian automotive industry.

On May 25 last year, the two prime ministers signed the agreement designed to eliminate tariffs on US$27bil (RM97.2bil) worth of goods, and liberalise some trade in services.

Malaysia, the largest passenger car market in Southeast Asia, agreed to remove tariffs on unassembled automobile parts imported and assembled locally by Japanese automakers.

It will also remove tariffs on vehicles that do not compete with Malaysian models. In return, the Japanese government will open its tightly controlled agriculture sector.

Comments:
Good moved, I think the Japanese is already seeking for alternative power and better for environment fuel since long time ago. Due to recent oil price increased, these Biotech oil has become reasonable to be list in as main sources soon. Now, Palm oil from Malaysia PLUS Technologies from Japan, they had found a right Partners.

Made in Malaysia: NAZA 206 Bestari Launched in Malaysia today

I believed you guys had seen this model many years ago and it was a PEUGEOT 206 originally. Naza had rebadged it and called as NAZA 206 Bestari with the price of RM68K to RM70K on the road.

The overall aim when designing the 206 Bestari suspension, was to ensure supple yet controlled suspension movement to maximise ride quality while, unlike many cars, enhancing driving pleasure by providing a distinctly sporting feel.

The 1.4 litre engine delivers a maximum power of 55 kW (approximately 75 PS) at 5500 rpm and a stall torque of 120 Nm at 2800 rpm.

It is coupled with an MA/5N 5-speed manual transmission or an AL4 4-speed automatic gear box with adaptive and sequential control (Tiptronic System Porsche).

The MA/5N transmission is adapted to the torque and power characteristics of the TU3 engine.

The front suspension consists of a pseudo-McPherson strut, acting on a lower wishbone with a linked anti-roll bar and hydraulic dampers set to a pressure of 3 bars.

The rear suspension consists of two rear suspension arms rigidly attached to a cross member, with two torsion bars, ananti-roll bar, and two hydraulic dampers.

Hydraulically operated power assisted steering is standard and discs are used at the front, while drums look after the rear.

The 206 Bestari provides the occupants with a number of safety systems in terms of impact protection, including two front air bags, combined with pretensioning seat belts with force limiters, front seat belt web locks and Three-point rear seat belts.

ABS with Electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) and emergency brake assistance (EBA) are standard on the Tiptronic System Porsche version.

Based on a pre-launch survey, NCSB predicts sales will reach 10,000 units this year for both the domestic and international markets.

Comments:
With the budget of RM70k actually we had not much choices to buy a good car in Malaysia. It was due to taxes structure and local automotive industrials factors.

Buying a Rebaged Peugeot might be a good options to you if you are looking for a affordable continental compact car. If you planning to buy this babe, I would suggest you to book it now since most of the parts and components still not fully localized yet.

This car will be a direct competitor to HONDA Jazz (Fit in Japan) and TOYOTA Yaris where their price are similar. However, if you are looking for a low maintenance cost vehicle, then this NAZA 206 might be a bit costly for you. The body is heavy than japanese models and the engine is smaller than original 2.0L engine from Peugeot, I think it will consume more petrol (Gasoline) than you thought.

As I always said, Buying a car (New or Used) is always a risk to get a problem car, its depend on your LUCK. As you know The car is "made by HUMAN, designed by HUMAN and HUMAN make ERRORs", therefore I always wish you GOOD LUCK to buy any cars.

As usual, our beloved Minister (This time is Najib TPM) will shown us his "THUMB UP" signed, and the same smilling face everytime. Here is the photo from The Edge newspaper.

If you wish to know more about this model please click on the above title. Thanks Paul Tan providing the detials and photos on his blog. ARIGATOU, Terima Kasih!

(From Canry)
