Mitsubishi Electric Car (i MiEV) news


The Mitsubishi Electric Car (100% Electric Powered Vehicle) is published today. The platform is based on current model "i" or Kei-Car (Under 660cc engine). The Electric Car is call "i MiEV" means "i Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle". Major different between Gasoline engine "i" and i MiEV are the no fuel tank and powerplant & transmission. Specificaitons:
1) Total gross weight: 1080kg
2) Number of Passenger: 4
3) Top speed: 130 km/h
4) Max. distance per full charge: 130km to 160km
5) Charging time: At home 5hrs to 7hrs (200V/15A)/ 11hrs to 13hrs (100V/15A) or Rapid Charger case 20 minutes to 25 minutes (200V/50kw)
6) Max. power: 47KW
7) Max. Torque: 180Nm <94nm>
8) Max. Rpm: 8500rpm
<7500rpm>
9) Battery type: Litium Ion (Location at the center or under the seats)
10)Motor location: Rear

11) Accerelation 0~80km/h : 1.5 second faster than current gasoline model.

Mitsubishi estimate i MiEV will on Sales at Japan first by End of 2008.
According to Mitsubishi testing results and experience, the new i MiEV maintenance cost is only 1/4 of gasoline price. Which means you can save propably about 75% of your current petrol expenses.

Besides that, electric car have many advantages too. For example, it's quite about 5dB lower than current i.

Sorry, the Car price is not announced yet, but it will be affordable price, maybe around RM40k I guess.

三菱自動車は、現在開発中の次世代電気自動車「MiEV(ミーブ、Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle)」※1の研究車両を製作し、電気自動車(EV)の普及にこれまで積極的に取り組んできた電力会社との共同研究を実施する。三菱自動車は研究車両の供給や実証走行データの分析、電力会社側は実証走行の実施・データの収集や市場での実用性評価を担当する。

Last, but not least, I think you guys may ask about infrastructure and public facility information too. From my knowladge, the power station or Power supplied companies have to coorperate with Mitsubishi Motors to setup a standard charging equipments for public users, before this vehicle can be sold to public. Therefore, I think many gasoline/petrol station, Supermarket parking lots, apartments, hotels, even restaurants will setup a special corner for electric charging services in the future. Now the business is under negotiation.
